Daily Life and Social Structure
The Roman empire and the Roman republic are somewhat different. In the Roman republic the social structure consists of slave as the lowest class, the plebeians is the second lowest class and they make up most of the Roman republic, then it’s the patrician, they are governed by the senate (at first), the assembly (after the plebeians revolt), and the consul (they have the most power and they are military leaders). In the Roman empire there may not be much changes beside the fact that that the senate and assembly had no power, and the only one who had power was the emperor.
In Ancient Rome the the upper class and the lower class had different lives, but people usually don’t live past ten and if they get past the age of 15 they will have a ceremony where they give up their bulla and their childhood toy and become a grown up. Also there is a lot of crime and disease, so rich people wore rags. Women and children were not allowed to go out alone. Also the rich would take baths at noon, and the poor would take them after they were done when the water is really dirty. The rich had fancier meals and the poor hardly had anything to eat. But most of the time the male marries someone a lot younger than they are.
Life as a slave is the toughest of all. They were treated really poorly, and they had to do jobs that they might not even want to do. The jobs usually consist of private house work, mining, farming, engineering, Etc. They were usually a prisoner of war or immigrants, but on the bright side they can become freemen which is kind of like a plebeian.
